That’s right, there truly is a Dolomite Mountains trip in Sardinia for everyone! Whether you’re looking for a relaxed vacation with gentle hikes to white sand beaches and crystal blue waters, or up for more a challenge climbing and rappelling to unexplored grottos at the base of spectacular cliffs – we have a trip for every interest and activity level!

To help you chose the trip that’s just right for you, each trip has an activity level. These range from easy to challenging, based on the terrain encountered and level of exertion required. Easier trips are perfect for people who want to explore at a relaxed pace. As the trips increase in difficulty, steeper or rockier paths are encountered, with more exposure, and some vertical climbing. DOLOMITE MOUNTAINS SARDINIA TRIP LEVELS:
Hiking trails in Sardinia range from sea level to 1,500 meters / 5,000 feet of elevation. Biking routes are similar, ranging from sea level to 1,500 meters / 5,000 feet of elevation. Easier trips will stay at lower elevations or use transfers to reach higher elevations, but then see little or no elevation change, while more difficult trips will increasingly see steeper ascents and descents included in the itinerary. EASY

Our easy trips are perfect for people who want to see Sardinia at a relaxed pace, are more interested in the flora and fauna and the cultural and historical aspects of the region, and for families with small children. The pace is leisurely, with stops along the way at historic sites and villages. On most days, activities are optional, and there are options for transfers via private or public transportation.

Hikes range from 1 to 3 hours and average 3-6 kilometers / 2-4 miles per day, while road bike rides range from 1 to 3 hours and average 8-25 kilometers / 5-15 miles per day.  Terrain is usually relatively flat with little elevation gain (up to 150 meters / 500 feet), hiking on well-maintained dirt trails, dirt roads, and paved paths, or biking on roads. 

EASY TO MODERATE
Our easy to moderate trips are great for people who want to see Sardinia at a relatively relaxed pace, yet still want to feel like they got some exercise, and for families with children. Activities range from 2 to 4 hours, with plenty of free time for other exploration. The pace is leisurely, with stops along the way at historic sites and villages. On most days, activities are optional, and there are options for transfers via private or public transportation.

Hikes average 6-10 kilometers / 4-6 miles per day, with additional walking options on some days. Ascents and descents are modest, with a maximum elevation gain (or loss) of 150-300 meters / 500-1,000 feet per day. Terrain is gentle to rolling, and can include unpaved dirt roads, single-track trails with some loose stones, gravel, or roots.  Road biking rides can cover up to 15-50 kilometers / 10-30 miles per day, with gentle ascents and descents of up to 150-750 meters / 500-2,500 feet. Mountain bike rides can cover up to 8-30 kilometers / 5-20 miles per day, with ascents and descents of up to 450 meters / 1,500 feet, or more. Mountain biking terrain can be on a variety of surfaces, but is usually on wide, forgiving fire roads. 

MODERATE
Moderate trips are active, with full days of hiking and other activities. These trips are perfect for people who want to be active, yet still have some time to explore the cultural and relaxation opportunities of Sardinia in the afternoon. Activities range from 4 to 6 hours, often lasting all day, with a stop for lunch. On some days activities are optional, and depending on logistics, there may be options for transfers via private or public transportation.

Hikes average 10-13 kilometers / 6-8 miles per day. There are also additional walking options on some days. Ascents and descents can be up to 300-600 meters / 1,000-2,000 feet. Terrain includes on a variety of surfaces, including single-track trails, uneven gravely surfaces, and sometimes steep. Often, one or two steeper climbs to spectacular viewpoints are included. You want to make sure you earn all that excellent cuisine you’re enjoying, now don’t you!? Moderate hiking trips may include one (or more) nights of camping or bivouacking, where you will need to carry a small backpack with your personal belongings and sleeping equipment for the night (meals are provided).

Road bike rides cover 30-65 kilometers / 20-30 miles per day, with ascents and descents of up to 300-1,500 meters / 1,000-5,000 feet. Mountain bike rides cover 15-40 kilometers / 10-25 miles per day, with ascents and descents of 300-1,500 meters / 1,000-5,000 feet. Mountain biking terrain can range from wide, forgiving fire roads to gravely surfaces and single track trails. Moderate rides may include one or two steeper climbs, but there’s always a payoff:  A spectacular vista anyone? Or exceptional cuisine for lunch?  Or, best yet, both!?

MODERATE TO CHALLENGING
Our moderate to challenging trips are demanding, with a whole lot of fun along the way. There will be no question in your mind whether you accomplished something at the end of each day! Hikes range from 4 to 8 hours, while cycling trips are 6 to 8 hours, usually lasting all day with a stop for lunch. Most days, activities are not optional, and most days do not have vehicle support available. While the pace is not leisurely, it is always comfortable, and there are ample stops for water and snacks to keep you going.

Hikes average 10-16 kilometers / 6-10 miles per day. Ascents and descents can be up to 300-900 meters / 1,000-3,000 feet. Terrain can be on a variety of surfaces, including rugged single-track trails, uneven gravely surfaces, and scree slopes, and are often steep, with steep drop-offs below. Having good balance and being sure footed on trails is important. Some trips require limited rock climbing and rappelling (no previous climbing experience is required).  These trips may include one (or more) nights of camping or bivouacking, where you will need to carry a small backpack with your personal belongings and sleeping equipment for the night (meals are provided). 

Road bike rides can cover up to 60-90 kilometers / 35-60 miles per day, climbing steep passes with ascents and descents of up to 1,500-3,000 meters / 5,000-10,000 feet. Mountain bike rides can cover up to 30-60 kilometers / 20-35 miles per day, with ascents and descents of up to 1,500-3,500 meters / 5,000-11,500 feet, or more.  Mountain biking terrain can be on a variety of surfaces, including rugged single-track trails, uneven gravely surfaces, and are often steep.

CHALLENGING
Our challenging trips are exactly that – challenging! These trips are designed for guests in excellent physical condition, who have a strong spirit of adventure. Challenging activities range from 6 to 8 hours, lasting all day with a stop for lunch. While the pace is not leisurely, it is always comfortable, and there are stops for water and snacks to keep you going.

Challenging hikes can be up to 13-24 kilometers / 8-15 miles per day. Ascents and descents can be 450-900 meters / 1,500-3,000 feet, or more. Terrain can be on a variety of surfaces, including rugged single-track trails, uneven gravely surfaces, and scree slopes, and are often steep, with steep drop-offs below. Trails are not always waymarked or well defined, and some cross-country style hiking may be included. Having good balance and being sure footed on trails is essential. Most trips require limited rock climbing and rappelling (no previous climbing experience is required). Challenging trips may include one (or more) nights of camping or bivouacking, where you will need to carry a small backpack with your personal belongings and sleeping equipment for the night (meals are provided). Most days, hiking activities are not optional, and most days do not have vehicle support available.

On road and mountain bike rides, while distance and elevation ranges are similar to moderate to challenging trips, trips are longer and the upper end of the range is tackled most days – you’ll have plenty of opportunities to push yourself on these trips!
